The Northern Ireland U-21 international had moved to Old Trafford in '92 from Portadown and was finally given his first team debut in 95-96. It came in a night to forget though playing alongside Gary Pallister in the shock 3-0 defeat to York City in the Coca-Cola Cup 2nd Round 1st leg. This proved to be McGibbon's one and only appearance for The Red Devils, the youngster was sent on loan to Swansea and Wigan, eventually signing for the Lancashire side in a £250K deal in the summer of '97. McGibbon went on to be a mainstay of the Wigan team for 5 years and represent Northern Ireland 7 times in total. The Red Devils would retain their Premier League crown but were frustrated in Europe at the Semi Final stage of the Champions League by Borussia Dortmund in this campaign
